Ideas to customize dashboard

Now there is a menu on the left side of the page, which is nearly as wide as the widgets are now. So it makes me wonder if some kinds of customizations for the dashboard page would be possible.

Like, for example:

-- an option to only have 2 columns of widgets
-- the ability to change the size of the widgets - height/width
-- the ability to place widgets in the same column with the menu, like below the menu
-- an option to put the menu back in the horizontal configuration -- across the top like it used to be
